Card: page title or headline
The choice of the page title needs to be particularly taken care of and deeply studied because it is one of the most important elements that research engines refer to. A word found in the title is therefore more important than a word found in the remaining text. Unfortunately it is not always possible to include all the words which give meaning to the page thus making it “visible” on the net. It’s a good idea to differentiate the title from the text, that is, to use different elements which give the title more than just one meaning.
Here’s a list of elements.
The tag <title>
This is THE most important point of the page for research engines.
The line (the underline) evidenced by the search engine indicates a connection to the title of the page registered in tag <title>. This is how the tag <title> appears on a search engine.
The tag <title> on Google is the blue phrase with the link to your site.
Usually a reader does not give tag <title> much attention whilst reading pages on the internet.
This is the reason why ,whilst writing tag <title> we must absolutely think of keywords used on the internet and how these will appear on search engines. This is how our browser sill show up:

The tag <title> appears on the task bar on the upper side of the browser. appears on the task bar on the upper side of the browser.
Every page on our website should have a tag <title> with different contents.
The best structure for a title is the one that privileges the content of every single page, indicating it at the beginning of the page itself: for example, if a site gives information concerning ecology and you have a specific page which mentions how to save water, well then, an efficient title could be
<title> Save water – Ecological recommendations</title>
It is not necessary to repeat the name of the dominion within the title because the search engine already sees the address on the page. Within the title you can use separators such as upper scores or under scores or →→ (the HTML code for having it appear it »).
Tag <h1>
Besides the tag <title>, there’s another point research engines look into and give quite an importance to, and that’s the word or words enclosed in the tag <h1> Normally this word or these words are visualized in very big characters within the site as search engines consider it or them a supplementary title.
The title assigned in this part of the page should be used thinking, above all, of the final user and only, in a second moment, and in second place, search engines. It would be preferable that the title assigned contain at few important words included in the text. If on our blog dealing with ecological suggestions we should wish to add a second page regarding how to reduce the consumption of water you most certainly wouldn’t want to include a title such as:
<h1> here we are again!!</h1>
BUT you would prefer:
<h1> new suggestions on how to avoid wasting water</h1>
In this way we introduce new keywords contemporarily winking to our habitual visitor; those who’ve already read the previous article.
The title within the tag <h1> can be the same as the tag <title> but differentiating the two, ends up in giving better results.
Page address
When you create a new page please pay particular attention to the address you assign it: it’s a useful index for search engines which allows to understand the subjects you’ve included in the site.
If you have the opportunity of defining your page’s address; create descriptive addresses, brief but not too complicated (that is without too many task bars in the address itself). If you can, avoid addresses which necessitate of parameters (that is, addresses which contain question marks).
Separate words in your address by using upper or under scores; search engines have difficulties in finding them if words are attached one to the other!
The following are good addresses:
http://www.ilmioblogsullecologia.it/consigli-ecologici/risparmi-acqua
http://www.myblogonecology.it/ecological-suggestions/saving-water
http://www.ilmioblogsullecologia.it/risparmia-acqua
http://www.myblogonecology.it/saving-water
http://www.ilmioblogsullecologia.it/risparmia-acqua.html
http://www.myblogonecology.it/save-water.html
A link is a title
Un ulterior title differentiation or diversity could be that of linking it with different words within a menu or within the text on another page on the website.
Here’s just an example: I have a site that talks about ecological paper which could be www.cartaecologica.it (www.ecologicalpaper.it) I want to make a page that talks about:
Enzymes which are capable of whitening paper thus safeguarding the environment,
constituting a valid alternative to optical bleaches
or whitening procedures which include the use of chlorine.
It is evident that I cannot maintain a title as long as the one above, BUT I can give the title a similar meaning by reducing it to :
“An enzyme in alternative to chlorine”
And by using an address such as:
www.cartaecologica.it/enzimi-al-posto-di-sbiancanti-ottici/
www.ecologicalpaper.it/enzymes-instead-of-optical-bleaches/
In this way I can find a better positioning whilst researching words such as “enzyme”, “enzymes”, “chlorine”, “optical bleaches”, “in alternative”, and “instead of”, as well as all other possible word combinations. I do not need to clarify whether I’m talking about paper, I don’t need to specify whether I’m talking about chlorine dioxide or other chemical components which contain chlorine, I don’t need to write the word ecology neither do I necessitate writing ecological, ecologism etc.
Within the menu on www.ecologicalpaper.it it is possible to use a less functional title, more useful to those who already visit mu site rather than to those who see the first page on Google but know nothing regarding the existence of my site. For example, should I use a title such as “ environmental friendly product bleaches paper”, adding other keywords and other word combinations useful to research engines, I’d find myself with people who digit words such as “paper without chlorine” “ environmental friendly enzymes” or “ecological bleaches” most probably reaching our website.
Links from other sites
What has just been said has an even major value when we’re talking about connections from pages external to our or your site. Search engines give great importance to words that are used to link other sites to ours or yours (in lingo this kind of linking is called anchor or anchor text). When you can, ask those who link you to use keywords that’ll help your site grow.
